On 17 November, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andrejs Pildegovičs, met with the Ambassador of Ghana to Latvia, Akua Sena Dansua. During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Latvia and Ghana.

State Secretary Pildegovičs emphasised that this is a landmark event in the history of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Ghana, which will promote future cooperation in a number of areas. The Ambassador stated her intent of expanding cooperation with Latvia not only on political matters, but also in trade, investments, information technologies and education. It was noted that exchange of high-level visits should be promoted to intensify bilateral relations.

Other topics discussed at the meeting were the current developments in both countries and cooperation in international organisations, including Latvia’s candidacy for the elections to the UN Security Council in 2025 and Ghana’s experience of working in this institution.

The Ambassador of Ghana also met with representatives from the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.

Diplomatic relations between Latvia and Ghana were established on 3 January 1992. H.E. Ms Akua Sena Dansua has been a non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Latvia since 10 March 2015 and resides in Berlin. The Latvian Honorary Consul in Ghana, Carmel Mouhtiseb, began working on 11 June 2015.
